Punta Pescadero
We have stayed at the hotel Punta Pescadero located on the East Cape of Baja California several time when flying in Baja. This is a nice quaint out of the way resort with a paved runway. Paved runways are rare in Baja so this place is an excellent resort to spend a few days. They have a nice restaurant with Cocktails and hors d'ourves on the terrace and candlelight dinners under the stars. Our first time in this resort was very unexpected.
At the bar, a dozen Americans were drinking beer, margaritas and soft drinks, chatting in the dulcet tones of relaxed people. It was one of those rare instances when reality matches fantasy. We I plunged into the scene, pulling up two seats at the bar, drinking our complimentary margaritas and watching the sun cast sparkles on the water. We could see mountains almost 50 miles down a coast that contained few signs of development. It could have been the moment or even the setting, but wow, the margarita "the best I've ever had." It certainly was potent. After downing just one, there was not much we could do except stroll on the nearly deserted beach, scour the coral-strewn sand for seashells and test the temperature of the warm water.
A few miles to the south there is the town of Los Barriles, a low-key Mexican village long favored by sport fishermen. From there we rent ATV's and ride on the beach from one hotel to another. These hotels are basically fish camps with the necessities for the men to spend a week away from home fishing. Each has a small bedroom with a shower a gorgeous view of the Sea of Cortez, a restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner and a cantina and sometimes some light local entertainment. We ride from one of the "fish camps" to another and spend the day doing so. Upon arrival we pull and leave the keys in rhe ATV's and spring up to the bar for chips and salsa and a cerveza or margarita. Then is's a half hour ride or so down the beach to the next one and maybe this time we'll have lunch and definitely  spend a little time in there pool. After 4 or 5 stops we do the exact thing back and have dinner at one of the places we stopped at earlier and try to make it back before it gets to late.
